  Money
Don't know if this has bugged anybody else, but I've found the police response to THE BIGGEST UK HEIST EVER a little OTT/odd; at the risk of sounding naive....it's only money. I appreciate the scale of the crime & the kidnapping element demand a strong response, but I found the quote 'We're dealing with this like a murder investigation' -like they were real proud, & felt this was the right way to go about it- insulting, insensitive & insane.
WHY ARE THEY DEALING WITH IT LIKE A MURDER INVESTIGATION?
Nobody died. Nobody was physically hurt. It must have been a harrowing ordeal for those involved, fer sure, but it's still far, far from being a crime comparable with murder, or a drunk hit & run, or rape etc. This crime does not warrant the same response that, say, Soham did, surely. £50 million ain't all that important in the big scheme.

Comments:
Too true. Have you noticed that the "net has been tightening" since Saturday on these robbers, according to our beloved media, and yet they are still only "quizzing" the suspects? Seven of the people they arrested have been released so how is the net tightening exactly? But therein lies the answer to your question; the police are probably treating it in exactly the same way as any other high profile robbery but because it has "captured the public imagination" so we hear every little detail about it. The BBC loves a record breaker of any description so they'll be banging on about this for ever.

With regard to priorities, I agree again (this is unprecedented). And yet the harsh reality is that this robbery will probably directly affect more people that a murder would. The guys who were robbed will claim on insurance and thus the insurance companies will put up their premiums and the average Joe on the street will have less money in their pockets. So it’s a crime against us all, in a way.

But it’s a interesting question, isn't it; how should we measure human life in terms of the "big scheme"? For example, I was watching the news yesterday and it pointed out that the British soldier in Iraq this week was the one-hundred and third Brit to die in the conflict and then went on to say, in passing, that about 100 Iraqis had died in Baghdad on one day. One British death gets more news time that 100 Iraqi deaths. Why?
